After the Salvadoran lawmakers approve Prohibition Act of Maras, Gang Groups, associations and organizations of a criminal nature, the president Mauricio Funes finally passed the measure that prohibits the existence, legalization, funding and support from them.
The maras are bands that proliferated in the Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras in the 90's, with links to the United States and Mexico.

The new legislation seeks to combat the existence of groups like the Mara Salvatrucha, MS-Thirteen, Eighteen Gang, Machine Mara, Mara Mao Mao, as well as "any group, association or criminal organization" which could also include the self-shadow Black, a prominent "death squad." However, the passage of the law, not included the proposal drafted by the Executive relating to the proscription of the death squads. "

Alex Torres, a journalist for El Diario de Hoy in El Salvador, spoke Blogs Cycling with and explained the scope of the law, the context in which it was driven, and the position of the United States. 09/09/1910
